A Definitive Guide to CBD Dosage for Cats

If you’re looking for an alternative medicinal treatment for your cat, you should consider Full Spectrum CBD Oil.

CBD products are gaining popularity as a treatment for a variety of ailments and for a very good reason! CBD Oil is a natural and safe alternative to modern medicine plus… it is effective.

While we usually hear about CBD products intended for human consumption, many pet owners are learning that their cats can benefit from CBD Oil the same way that humans do. Pet owners are jumping on the CBD train and choosing to take a more natural approach to their kitties’ health and overall well-being.

If you’re thinking of giving CBD to your cat, you’ll want to learn about the appropriate CBD dosage.

CBD Dosage for Cats: What You Need to Know

If you notice your cat is feeling unwell, you should first take him or her to the vet, just to be on the safe side. Ask your vet if they feel that CBD Oil could help improve your cat’s overall quality of life.

If your cat is on any medications, be sure to double check with your vet that the CBD oil will not conflict with it in any way, shape or form. While rare, CBD can lead to a potential decrease in liver enzyme production, which could ultimately prevent proper metabolization of prescription drugs.

1. The Right Dose

Once you have purchased your Full Spectrum CBD Oil, you’ll want to choose the right dose. You may think there is a generic dose for all cats, but in reality, there are many factors that dictate how much CBD Oil you should give your cat.

As of the date of this article, there is no approved standard dosing guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Due to the lack of FDA guidance with regards to CBD dosing, many people search the internet and ask around, which seems to only add to the confusion. You will run into a plethora of different options and suggestions.

Some companies will tell you to administer a full dropper a day, while others will tell you to dose your cat every few hours without any clear instruction as to how much they should be dosing.

At Mile High Pawducts, we do our best to remove the confusion from the process. We have served thousands of customers just like you and our aim is to simplify the process as much as possible.

There are ultimately two variables to be considered with regards to choosing the optimal CBD dosage starting point for your cat – weight and the severity of the condition you are seeking to treat.

Not all cats respond to CBD oil in the same way. Some cats respond very well to a low dose, while others may need a slight boost in order to fully benefit from the oil. In most cases, we suggest starting your cat off with a low dose (twice daily) for the first two weeks in order to gauge how they respond to the CBD oil. After two weeks, we suggest gradually increasing the dosage for desired effectiveness.

For inflammation and pain management, we suggest you administer a dose every 8 hours for best results and optimal comfort.

2. Calculate The Right Dose

For a low dosage, we recommend giving your cat 0.05 milligrams of the CBD Oil per pound of their body weight – this constitutes a full dose. You should administer this dose twice per day unless you are treating inflammation or pain management, in which case we recommend dosing every 8 hours.

So for example, if your cat weighs 10 pounds, you would want to administer 0.5 milligrams twice per day.

Consistency is crucial! If you find that your cat reacts positively to the low dose, there is no need to go higher. If after about two weeks, you don’t see much benefit from the oil, start gradually increasing the dose until you find the sweet spot.

A medium dosage is 0.125 milligrams per pound of body weight, administered twice per day.

A high dosage is 0.25 milligrams per pound of body weight, administered twice per day.

It is good to understand the math behind the dosage calculations, but lets be honest.. how many people enjoy math? Not many. We have gone ahead and created a dosage calculator for you to use. Simply input your cat’s weight into the calculator and it will compute a low, medium and high dose for you. It even goes one step further to break down individual drops in each dosage, based on the strength of the bottle you have.

3. When to Administer the Dose

Ideally, you should administer a dose before any serious issues arise. For instance, if your cat usually becomes anxious when there is a storm, you should administer a dose an hour or so before the storm begins.

After administering the full dose, it can take up to half an hour for the effects to show.

If you are giving your cat CBD as a supplement for overall wellbeing, then you can administer a dose in the morning and a dose in the evening. In fact, most of our customers end up dosing their pets at feeding time, so once around breakfast time and the second dose around dinner time.

4. How to Administer the Dose

You can feed your cat the CBD Oil directly from the dropper or you can mix it with his or her food. One of the most effective ways is to squirt the dosage under your cat’s tongue or along their gum line. If you opt for this method, make sure you do not stick the entire dropper in their mouth.

You can also squirt the dosage into your palm and see if your cat will lick it off.

Likely the most effective method for administering CBD Oil to cats is to add it to a little bit of tuna juice or fish oil. This becomes an irresistible temptation for most kitties and it also helps to mask the flavor if they are picky eaters. We cover the 5 most effective ways to administer CBD oil to pets here

5. Is it Safe?

This is probably what has been lingering in the back of your mind. It is imperative that your CBD products are 3rd party tested for safety, purity and potency.

High-quality CBD products like ours are shown to be safe through 3rd party testing, which should be published and publicly available information.

We have an independent 3rd party test every single batch of CBD Oil that we process before the product hits the shelves. Our testing reveals potency, microbial pathogens, pesticides, residual solvents and heavy metals.

Each of our products has a unique batch number which can be traced back to a specific 3rd party test. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it gives you peace of mind that your cat is not going to be exposed anything harmful.

6. Overall Benefits
