Benefits of CBD Oil for Cats

Before we get into how to make CBD cat treats, let’s delve into how they can benefit your purrfect feline. Giving CBD to your cat can increase their quality of life by easing joint pain, stopping stress, increasing their appetite, calming asthma symptoms, and stopping seizures.

Joint Pain

Arthritis and joint pain happen when inflammation flairs up between two bones. It’s pretty painful and makes it hard for cats to get around. It’s heartbreaking to witness but CBD can help.

It’s been praised as an anti-inflammatory for years now. Giving it to your cat can help ease their pain symptoms and give them their mobility back.

Stress

Cats can get stressed out as easily as you can. If something is stressing them, they will let you know

They may start excessively licking and biting themselves. They won’t eat as much as they normally do and they might begin to display a variety of behavioral issues.

CBD reacts with hormones in your cat’s body to help calm them and get their behavior back to normal.

Appetite and Digestion

There are a variety of reasons why your cat might not be eating. If this loss of appetite is left unchecked, it may cause more serious health conditions and malnutrition. CBD can stimulate the cat’s appetite and get it eating again before that happens.

Sometimes even if your cat is eating their body can’t digest it the right away and so they don’t take in as many nutrients. CBD can aid in digestive function and help keep your cat healthy.

Asthma

Asthma is a pretty common condition amongst felines. A lot of cats show minor symptoms that don’t require any kind of medical attention.

Others aren’t as lucky. They show major symptoms and need an inhaler to get by. CBD can stop inflammation and ease their asthma symptoms

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t drop their regular asthma treatment right away in favor of CBD treats. It’s not a replacement for their inhaler. Talk to your vet before you begin giving them the treats.

Seizures

Seizures aren’t that common in cats but that doesn’t mean that they don’t occur at all. If your cat is prone to having them, giving them CBD treats can stop it.

If your cat is already taking some kind of medication for seizures, don’t stop their treatment to give them CBD treats. Talk to your vet before you make the transition.

Is CBD Safe for Your Cat?

The answer here is yes. CBD is completely safe to give to a cat. As you can see, it treats a wide variety of conditions and causes almost no nasty side effects at all.

We will say that you should be careful about where you get the CBD oil that you put in the treats.

It should be specially made with animals in mind and come from a reputable buyer. Always consult your vet for dosing instructions. Your cat’s body is small so they should only be taking tiny doses of CBD.

Making Your Own CBD Cat Treats

Now that you know the basics of CBD oil for cats, it’s time to bake your treats. Grab your kitchen tools and let’s get started.

What You'll Need

Now that we’ve gotten all the background information out of the way, it’s time to get down to business and make your cat CBD treats.

To get started you’re going to need to grab 2 medium sweet potatoes (cook and mash them), 1/2 cup of coconut flour, 1/2 cup of coconut oil + about 60 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil, a single egg, one can of drained tuna or sardines, and 1/4 cup of gelatin powder.

Cooking Instructions

To get started, go ahead and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. If you bake them at a higher temperature than that, the CBD will evaporate and become ineffective.

Once you have that going, grab a medium bowl and begin mixing the ingredients. If there are any large chunks of potato or fish do your best to mash them up with a fork.

The ending product should sort of feel like Play-Doh in your hands. If your dough doesn’t have this consistency, you can add a little bit more coconut flour to it.

Roll out the treats into small one-inch balls and flatten them with a fork. Sort of like you’re making your fur baby a batch of peanut butter cookies. Put them in the oven and let them bake until they’re a nice golden-brown color.

It should only take about 20 minutes or so. Take them out of the oven and let them cool. You should have around 30 treats to give to your cat. At 60 mg per batch, each treat should carry approximately 2 mg of CBD.

Try Introducing Your Cat to CBD Through the Magic of Treats

If your cat is showing signs of joint pain, anxiety, loss of appetite, or asthma, giving them CBD might ease some of their symptoms. Not all cats will sit still long enough for you to administer oil but you can still give them the help they need through CBD cat treats.

They’ll feel better and they won’t even realize what they are eating is medicine because it tastes so good.
